Hawksnest Ski Resort
Perched high atop a mountain up the road from Foscoe sits the resort town of Seven Devils NC, population 129. But with over 300 vacation homes and rental cabins, majestic views of Grandfather Mountain, one of the premier North Carolina ski slopes at Hawksnest Ski Resort, this is the quintessential Blue Ridge vacation resort town. Seven Devils NC is truly a town built around the “second home” lifestyle!
Hawksnest Ski Resort
Of all the North Carolina ski slopes, Hawksnest Ski Resort is known as one of the best. Although smaller than Beech and Sugar, with a 669 vertical drop, it’s considered to be one of the more challenging slopes, and it’s much less crowded, meaning less time standing in line, and more time on the slopes!
Considered to be one of the more snowboard friendly slopes in North Carolina, Hawksnest provides a snowboard park that is maintained in part by the ASU Snowboarding Club. (This is where the locals come to ski!)
For those kids of all ages who just want to play in the snow, Ski Hawksnest proudly presents a newly redesigned Tubing area of 900 feet with a 90 foot vertical drop.
Hawksnest Ski Resort is definitely the place to bring the whole family for good, friendly, all round winter fun!
Hawksnest Golf Resort
Hawksnest Golf course has been closed now for over a year. It seems that the owners of the Hawksnest property , who also own the ski resort, could not make the course profitable, and although the residents of Seven Devils are now clamoring for a reopening, they apparently did not support it when it was there.
Leonard Cottom, one of the three owners of the resort, has expressed his wish to retire, and has had the Hawksnest property on the market for some time with no takers. The golf course and ski resort are being offered as one parcel.
In a contentious town meeting in June, the Town of Seven Devils considered taking the golf course through the use of Eminent Domain. Read more about the meeting in an article by Scott Nicholson of the Wautauga Democrat.
As of now, the golf course stands empty and in need of repair. In late August,
the town of Seven Devils agreed to hire Signet Golf to conduct a Feasibility
study to determine the financial viability of the project for the town, or
any other potential buyers.
